As an Australian, and to use the American politic-speak, a liberal, I was appalled at the antics of the American Right attacking Michael J. Fox. I write this 48 hours before your midterm elections and perceive the timing (of the accusations)to be impeccable and strangely so close to an election – an election that, according to all the polls and the confirmed rumors could spell the end for the Republican Party. To attack a man speaking his mind and accuse him of exploiting his condition – no one but the neo-conservatives could be so blatant as to even conceive such an attack.
I was saddened and pleased that he was strong enough to broadcast his affliction to the American people in such a convincing and emotive interview.
We too have a government under the neo-conservative banner – one which totally ignores the will of its people, one that totally ridicules and denies the existence of Global Warming. One that follows and not led as it has shown with the war in Iraq. They have left us a country divided just as yours is divided.
I only trust that the majority of US voters place their vote with determination that a change is needed. The road that it and us are following is one of a divided country ruled by the power brokers. Jobs are disappearing, poverty is increasing, infrastructure is crumbling. Those with shuttered vision and rose-colored glasses cannot see or refuse to see these realities.
